Gambit works well?!

Today i play againts an opponent who has a decent combo, but i just wonder how?! He played first Wong in central area, then Magick on the right, after that Onslaught middle, Mystic middle and Gambit middle. I mean i get it. He can destroy my cards. Okay. But the Gambit description says "Discard a card from your hand". So how can he discard 64 cards from his hand?? The effect should last long until he has a card in his hand.. It is just completely absurd seeing fast forwarding 64 destroy effect.. Or if they think this is correct, then change Gambit's description ffs.
